Suspected Cultists Butcher Man, Dump Body In Waste Bin In Calabar.

The corpse of a young man, believed to be in his early 20s was on Monday morning found badly butchered and dumped in a waste bin at Edgerly Street in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. Early on the day, passers-by recognized the face of the dismembered body of the youth and removed it to Edibe-Edibe Road where his parents live. The incident attracted an unprecedented crowd of people who thronged the place to see the bizarre scene. In a telephone conversation with National Accord, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Hogan Bassey said he was yet to be briefed about the killing, and could therefore not comment. In an interaction with some relatives of the deceased, they narrated that at about 8 pm on Sunday, the deceased whose name was given simply as Etebong was with some of his friends near his home when he received a call allegedly from his girl friend to come over. “Etebong was with us when we were drinking. Later, he received a call and said it was his girlfriend that called, inviting him over to her house,” said his friend, Samuel Effiong. Effiong added that Eteobong was very popular in the neighborhood. Family source told our reporter that Etebong called later in the night asking if there was electric power, but when he was told there was no power he then said he would not return till the following morning. Etebong’s mother allegedly fainted when she saw the dismembered body of her son. His friends, neighbours and sympathizers thronged the deceased home to sympathize with the family. Close sources suspect that it could be the case of rival cult group plotting against him. Meanwhile, there is fear that if it is a clash between rival cult groups, then there was going to be reprisal attacks soonest in the area.
